Halogen Bearing Amphiboles, Aqueous Fluids, and Melts in Subduction Zones: Insights on Halogen Cycle From Electrical Conductivity

چکیده
Amphiboles are hydrous minerals that formed in the oceanic crust via hydrothermal alteration. The partial substitution of halogens for OH? makes amphibole one principal hosts Cl and F subducting slab. In this study, we investigated electrical conductivity a suite halogen bearing at 1.5 GPa up to 1,400 K. discontinuous behavior indicates dehydration ?915 This is followed by induced melting temperatures above 1,070 We find released aqueous fluids have an ?0.1 S/m. high likely explain anomalously observed certain subduction zone settings. order magnitude greater than pure similar conditions due partitioning into fluids. also noted subsequent dehydration, secondary phases form breakdown primary amphibole. Chemical analyses these indicate they repositories Cl. Hence, infer upon amphibole, first partitioned then back mineral phases. These transport deep Earth may part concentration ocean island basalt.

Halogen transfer through halogen bonds in halogen-bound ammonia homodimers.
Ab initio MP2(full)/aug-cc-pVTZ calculations have been carried out to investigate the halogen transfer between haloamines and ammonia. The results show that the formation of a halogen bond complex between ammonia and the protonated N-haloamine is a preliminary step in the halogen transfer process. The complexation energies, optimized geometries, topology of electron density and potential energy...
متن کاملType II halogen···halogen contacts are halogen bonds
Cl/Br/I alternative substitutions in a series of dihalophenols indicate that type I and type II halogen···halogen contacts have different chemical nature. Only the latter ones qualify as true halogen bonds, according to the recent IUPAC definition.

متن کاملA New Type of Halogen–Halogen Bonds
The interactions between the two CX3 groups in perhalogenated ethanes, X3C–CX3 are studied, with X3C–CX3 = H3C–CH3, F3C–CF3, F3C–CCl3, and Cl3C–CCl3. Utilising the recently developed method for revealing non-covalent interactions in molecular systems by Johnson et al. [1], a previously overlooked non-covalent interaction between halogens attached to opposite carbon atoms is unearthed. Further i...
متن کاملElectrical Conductivity Measurement of Oxides Melts
Notwithstanding on variety of existing processes of induction skull melting of oxides, electrical and thermal properties of oxides melts are practically unknown. From the other hand, liquid-phase synthesis of Hi-Tech oxides materials such as new ceramics, monocrystals and glasses, requires knowledge of melts properties up to 3700 K. Inasmuch as the main physical property, which influence to the...
